On Saturday February 20th 80 of our lovely sisters volunteered 8-12 hours of their time to help with Zoo La La, a Gala that was hosted by Black Woods Group and The Duluth City Zoo with a purpose to raise the funds needed for a new X-Ray machine. The event raised a staggering $60,000 dollars, that's $45,000 more than the Zoo's goal of $15,000! The event was clearly a complete success, with all 80 girls being completely exhausted by the end of the day but the outcome making every minute of work worth it. We are honored to have helped with such a worthy cause, however this event wouldn't have been made possible without the help of Amanda Goodman. Once Amanda heard that this event needed volunteers, she approached our sorority with the idea, put hours of effort into making it come to life, and was a spectacular coordinator of all 80 of us throughout the process. Huge thank-you's to Amanda, Black Woods Group, The Duluth City Zoo, and the 80 wonderful women that helped make this event possible!
On February 20th, the Lake Superior Zoo is teaming up with Blackwoods and Phi Sigma Sigma Iota Zeta to put on Zoo La La, a fundraising gala with an ultimate goal of a new X-ray machine for the animals of the zoo! With the current X-Ray technologies being used by the Zoo being extremely outdated, a new machine is really their main priority to address possible future health concerns for the animals. To raise the funds necessary to purchase this the Zoo needs YOUR help! Register to attend Zoo La La 2016 at the Greysolon Ballroom on Saturday, February 20th to have a delicious dinner, meet some of the animals, and most importantly help the Lake Superior Zoo raise the funds they need to help these animals!
Meghan Hurley joined Phi Sigma Sigma in the fall of 2014 as a freshman along with the rest of our Phi class. Meghan was elected the Continuous Recruitment Chair for the year of 2015 and is currently the Membership recruitment Chair, both of these positions being on the executive board. Megan explained that Phi Sigma Sigma has given her life long sisters that she can lean on for anything, and she never knew she could be so passionate about an organization, even calling Phi Sigma Sigma her "home away from home"! Congratulations Meghan for receiving sister of the month, after such a spectacular recruitment we would all say that you definitely deserve it! :)
In January of 2016, our Membership Recruitment Chair Meghan Hurley produced a flawless recruitment week that resulted in Phi Sigma Sigma Iota Zeta extending bids to 19 beautiful women. With the theme of Home Sweet Home, our new members were welcomed into the oh-so-sweet life of being a Phi Sig with a candy-themed bid day. From the lollipop bids to the extensive candy bar, there was lots of dancing, laughs, and of course our lovely historian Madison Wolf took a plethora of pictures! It was a long week of set up, rounds, and clean up but the result of 19 perfect new members made it all worth it. Congrats Omega class, we can't wait to see all that you accomplish!
