a letter from our archon:

Hello! My name is Laura Cheezig and I am thrilled to say that I get to serve as the 2018-2019 Archon, our fancy word for President, for the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. I had never been exposed to Greek life until I went to college. However, when I started my freshman year at UMD I knew going through recruitment was something I wanted to experience. Going into it I was okay with the fact that I might not like it, but I wanted to give it a chance. Luckily, I found a large group of dynamic women who helped me grow into a person I never thought I could become. Through my time in the organization I have met many people that have shaped my college journey and pushed me to hold leadership positions. I have gained lifelong friendships, networks of sisters across the nation, and took part in many educational and philanthropic opportunities. This organization has become a home and a family of sisters who never fail to amaze me on how much of an impact we make on the community around us, as well as, the members in our chapter. My goal as Archon is to continue to inspire the chapter, strengthen our relationships with other Greek organizations on campus, maintain and exceed our service and philanthropic events, and continue to help Duluth’s local schools and businesses. There is this commonly said quote among sororities “From the outside looking in, you can never understand it. From the inside looking out, you can never explain it”. As cheesy as it sounds, this could not be more true for Phi Sigma Sigma. In my term, I hope to give back to Iota Zeta as much as it has given me and to keep upholding the ideals we have set in advancing the women we are so lucky to welcome each year. I cannot wait to add to our pyramid in Fall of 2019!
